Bentayg clarifies his position after Egypt national team rumors
Massad Youssef, the agent of Moroccan international Mahmoud Bentayg, has clarified the speculation regarding the player's potential switch of national allegiance from Morocco to Egypt in order to represent the Egyptian national team in the near future.
This comes after Egyptian media circulated news about the Egyptian national team's interest in signing the left-back from Zamalek, through the possibility of him obtaining Egyptian citizenship.
Mahmoud Bentayg's agent stated in comments reported by media outlets that the player does not wish to represent the Egypt national team, despite some parties reaching out to inquire about his stance on the idea of obtaining Egyptian citizenship.
Masad Youssef clarified that the matter has not gone beyond inquiries and has not turned into any official steps from the player, emphasizing that Mahmoud Bentayg is still committed to representing Morocco.
Mahmoud Bentayg represented the senior national team of Morocco during the Arab Cup 2025, having previously represented the youth categories of the Atlas Lions. According to available data, the player participated in 4 matches with Morocco during the tournament, without scoring any goals.
