Carragher compares Arteta to Ferguson after Sunderland match crisis

Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool star and analyst for Sky Sports, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the penalty awarded against Arsenal during their 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's head coach, expressed his strong anger at the penalty decision, describing it as unacceptable, while the club moved to seek clarification from the body responsible for referees regarding the reason for awarding the penalty and its confirmation by the Video Assistant Referee.

Jamie Carragher has compared Mikel Arteta's handling of the situation to that of legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, noting that the Arsenal manager has established a strong position within the Premier League after successfully leading the team to the title.

Jamie Carragher said during the "Monday Night Football" program: "This is Mikel Arteta turning into Sir Alex Ferguson in the Premier League right now. He is the strongest man at the moment; he is the Premier League champion."

He continued: "There are many new coaches, while he has been in his position for six or seven years, and he now feels that he is in a position of strength that allows him to say: Yes, it was not a penalty. And I also do not think it was a penalty."

He explained: "But it will be interesting to see how long it takes before another referee awards a penalty against Arsenal in a similar situation."

A former Liverpool star commented on the press conference held by Arteta after the match, saying: "I thought it was very interesting in the press conference; one journalist pointed out that no matter what question he asked, he kept going back to talking about the penalty, so he was determined to send the message that this would not happen again with his club."

Carragher concluded his remarks by saying: "But this is the nature of the manager, we saw it with Sir Alex Ferguson, and we saw it with José Mourinho."
