Qatar's Al-Gharafa coach comments ahead of AFC Champions League Elite clash with Al-Hilal

Pedro Martínez, the coach of Al-Gharafa, has expressed confidence in his team's ability to face Al-Hilal, asserting that the difficulty of the match will not deter him from pursuing an impressive performance. Meanwhile, Adam Ounas emphasized his team's readiness.

Al-Gharafa visit Al-Hilal on Tuesday evening at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh for the first round of the western zone in the AFC Champions League Elite 2026-2027.

Martínez said in the press conference: "Al-Hilal is one of the strongest teams in the AFC Champions League Elite, and facing them will be difficult, but we have the capabilities that help us compete."

He added: "We are not in our best form right now, but we will give everything we have, and if we play at the level we know we can, we can deliver a special match."

Regarding the superiority of Saudi clubs in Asia, Al-Gharafa's coach explained that the differences seem natural considering the resources available to Saudi teams, but he refused to consider that a factor that decides the outcome of the match.

Martinez emphasized his stance before the match, stating: "I am not afraid of facing Al-Hilal, we can take them on, and anything can happen in football, and we will enter the match with the aim of delivering a great performance."

Algerian Adam Ounas spoke about the strength of the opponent, confirming that Al-Gharafa respects Al-Hilal, but he will not give up his confidence in his abilities before the match.

Adam Ounas said: "Al-Hilal have a host of world-class players, but we also have some standout elements, and we respect our opponent greatly, while at the same time we trust in our abilities."

Al-Gharafa star added: "We came to Al Riyadh to give everything we have, and we have a cohesive team. What is required is to stick to our usual style and start strong."

Adam Ounas explained that taking chances will be a crucial element against Al-Hilal, pointing out the need for complete focus throughout the match, especially during moments when scoring opportunities arise.
