AS Monaco drop first points in Ligue 1 with thrilling draw against RC Strasbourg Alsace
AS Monaco were held to a 1-1 draw by RC Strasbourg Alsace on Saturday, in a thrilling match that saw intense competition between the two teams during the fourth round of Ligue 1.
RC Strasbourg Alsace started the match strongly, benefiting from high pressing and a large crowd at the Stade de la Meinau. The hosts imposed a clear advantage during the first half, while AS Monaco struggled to find space, ending the first half in a goalless draw.
RC Strasbourg Alsace took the lead in the 52nd minute, when AS Monaco defender Sadiq Sané inadvertently headed a free-kick taken by Oso into his own net, giving his team the advantage.
AS Monaco's young talent Paris Brunner found the net in the 71st minute with a brilliant strike from outside the box that nestled into the top right corner of the goal, marking his third goal of the season.
AS Monaco pushed for a late winner during the closing minutes, but their attempts bore no fruit. Meanwhile, a goal from Denis Zakaria was disallowed for offside in the 88th minute, before the team appealed for a penalty in stoppage time, which was not given.
With this draw, AS Monaco has dropped their first two points in Ligue 1 this season, but they have maintained their unbeaten record with 10 points at the top of the table, ahead of Rennes on goal difference, while RC Strasbourg Alsace continues their positive start to the season.
