Officially: Marcos Llorente announces his retirement from international football

Marcos Llorente, the Atlético player, announced today, Thursday, his definitive retirement from playing with the Spain national team, bringing an end to his international career after being crowned champion of the last FIFA World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Yurente, who is 31 years old, has concluded his journey with the Spain national team after playing 27 matches, in addition to participating in the European Champion and the FIFA World Cup.

Since his first appearance with the national team against the Netherlands in 2020, under the guidance of Luis Enrique, Yurrente has become a regular in La Roja's squad at right-back. He also started in Spain's opening match at the last FIFA World Cup, before losing his place due to competition with Pedro Porro.

Atlético player has represented various age groups for the Spanish national teams, having played for the Under-19 and Under-21 teams before reaching the senior team. His first appearance for the senior team came under Luis Enrique in a match against the Netherlands that ended in a 1-1 draw at the Amsterdam Arena.

Yurente missed the European Champion, as De la Fuente relied on Dani Carvajal and Jesús Navas in the right-back position, before regaining his place in the national team to participate in the FIFA World Cup and win the title, thus ending a short but successful international career.

Yorente said in his farewell message: "After a long time thinking about it, I have decided to end my time with the Spain national team."

He added: "I realize that I am still young, and perhaps if I continue to do things well, I will have more years ahead of me to keep playing in this shirt."

He continued: "I know that many of you will not understand my decision, and perhaps I would not have understood it myself if I were on the outside, but it is my personal decision, one that I have thought about a lot, and above all, a decision that comes from my feelings."

He explained: "Regardless of whether I will participate in the FIFA World Cup or not, or whether we will win or not, I had already made this decision."

He continued: "I can only be endlessly grateful to all the people I have met during these years, who made it possible for me and my family to live unique and unforgettable moments."

He concluded his message by saying: "I will cherish everything I have experienced, but above all, these last 52 days, with a wonderful group that fought until the end to put Spain in the highest place. And I did that, it was an honor for me to represent my country and to be part of this story. Thank you for everything. A hug to everyone."
