Tunisian club Esperance moves to correct course as Reghecampf apologises and promises fans a turnaround
Reghecampf, the coach of Espérance Sportive de Tunis, has moved quickly to calm the anger of the fans following a poor start in the Ligue Professionnelle 1, confirming his responsibility for the performance and results, and pledging to make the necessary adjustments to correct the course in the upcoming matches.
Espérance de Tunis suffered a heavy blow in the second round of the tournament, losing 3-2 to Jeunesse Sportive Omrane. This has led to increased criticism of the coaching staff, especially as the team has conceded five goals in just the first two rounds, a figure that Espérance de Tunis is not accustomed to in domestic competitions in recent seasons.
The defeat has sparked widespread anger among the team's supporters, leading to calls for the dismissal of Régis Gurtner and the hiring of a new coach capable of utilizing the available human resources, especially after a strong Transfare market that saw the management bolster the squad with several names, including Ribeiro, Castillo, Faraj, Al-Mustouri, and Cheikhawi.
In an attempt to contain the situation, Rejicampt released a message through the official website of Espérance, starting with an apology for the level at which the team performed. He emphasized that he takes full responsibility and confirmed that everyone within the club is dissatisfied with the result of the match against Jeunesse Sportive Omrane and the performance the team delivered.
The Romanian coach stated that Espérance did not perform as expected on various levels, acknowledging that the fans have the right to feel angry, especially after the team conceded five goals in two matches.
Reghecampf confirmed that work has already begun to address the mistakes made, both collectively and individually, to avoid repeating them in upcoming matches. He added that the first signs of improvement should be visible in the next match against Moustakbel Marsa.
The coach of Espérance pointed out that the significant changes in the team's composition compared to last season require some time for the new arrivals to integrate with the group and acclimatize to the club's atmosphere and mentality. However, he emphasized the necessity of achieving clear progress from one match to another.
Despite acknowledging defensive problems, Rejicampt clarified that the team has a distinctive attacking style and plays good football; however, this is not enough to achieve their goals, stressing the need to work harder on the defensive side.
The Romanian coach emphasized that defensive responsibility does not rest solely on the defenders, but includes all players, urging every member of the team to work and fight to regain possession of the ball as quickly as possible and not to give the opponent space and opportunities to create danger.
Regikamp concluded his message by confirming that mistakes were made and that the process of fixing them has already begun, urging all components of Espérance de Tunis, especially the fans, to rally around the team and support it in achieving the goals set before the start of the season.
The goal is clear within Espérance, which is to build a team capable of competing strongly for the CAF Champions League title and to win all domestic trophies. It was emphasized that the road is still long and that the team has a large number of matches ahead to prove the reality of its capabilities.
The importance of hard work and focus was emphasized, along with understanding the value of wearing the Esperance shirt, considering the club's prestige, history, and achievements. It is hoped that the match against Future Marsa will be a real starting point for correcting the course and restoring the team's balance.
