The situation surrounding Jean-Philippe Mateta and Crystal Palace continues as discussions unfold regarding the legal status of the player's contract, amid controversy over the validity of the extension option activated by the club.

According to Sami Mokbel, Mateta signed a 4.5-year contract with Crystal Palace in January 2022, with an option to extend the deal for an additional year.

In the summer of 2024, Crystal Palace activated the option to extend for an additional year, meaning Jean-Philippe Mateta's contract with the club will continue until 2027.

However, Mateta believes that this extension is no longer legally valid and that he was supposed to become a free agent this summer, allowing him to leave Crystal Palace without compensation.

Matita has raised the case to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), but FIFA has determined that this type of case does not fall within its jurisdiction.

Mateta has returned to FIFA to raise the issue again, in an attempt to resolve his contract situation with Crystal Palace.

If Mateta successfully demonstrates that the extension executed by Crystal Palace is not valid, he will have the right to leave the club for free during the current summer transfer window.
