Wydad Moves to Extend Mehdi Benabid's Contract for Two More Years
Wydad Casablanca has begun efforts to secure the future of goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid, as the club's management has decided to open discussions on extending his contract beyond 2028, in line with their desire to maintain team stability in the upcoming phase.
Reports have revealed that the club's management, led by Ibrahim Al-Asri, is preparing to enter negotiations with the goalkeeper regarding a new contract, after presenting him with an offer to extend his association with the team for an additional two seasons, along with improved financial terms.
Benabid has just one year left on his current contract, but Wydad's management is keen to resolve his future early as part of a new strategy aimed at building a team capable of competing for titles, following a four-season absence from the trophy podium.
Benabid joined Wydad in January 2025 from Royal Army, quickly establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Red team.
Wydad Casablanca's management is awaiting the outcome of upcoming negotiations with Benabid, as they aim to keep the goalkeeper within the team's project for a longer period and secure one of the most crucial positions in the lineup ahead of upcoming challenges.
