Kiev: Lautaro Will Stay at Inter for a Long Time, We Start from Scratch
Inter Milan's coach Christian Kivu appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Monza in the opening round of Serie A at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
The coach stated: "We start from scratch, knowing that we are the team everyone wants to beat. No one will give us anything for free, so we will try to be competitive and achieve our ambitions until the end. In recent years, this team has proven its ability to maintain a certain level, and we must keep that level and add more to it."
He added: "With determination, hunger, and humility, along with the room for development we have, I believe we can do a great job."
When asked about the team that Inter fears both domestically and in Europe, he replied decisively: "No one. Everyone starts from scratch, and we cannot be satisfied with what we have achieved. We need to find new motivations to continue evolving. I don't think much has changed over the year. We hadn't reached the end back then, and we are not guaranteed dominance now. Every season has its ups and downs, and what matters is how you react to these circumstances."
Discussing Lautaro Martínez's future, he stated: "There are always many stories at this time of year. We are happy to talk about our players, as it means they are recognized as some of the best in the world. Lautaro is our captain; he won the World Cup in 2022 and was in the final just a few weeks ago. He is a great player, and we are holding on to him tightly because he represents what we were and what we want to be in the future."
When asked if he was sure Lautaro wouldn't be tempted to move to Barcelona, he replied: "I fear nothing. Lautaro is the captain, and there may be a lot of talk about him, but I believe he will stay for a long time, because he is a player we want to build the future with. I also know that the transfer market can be very difficult, so the only answer I can give is that I want him to stay."
Regarding the new signings, primarily Curtis Jones coming from Liverpool, along with Djed Spence and John Stones: "Our duty is to evolve and prepare for the future. I won't deny that I spoke with Jones before his arrival, and I am happy to have him with us, as he possesses some qualities we needed."
He added: "The same applies to Spence and Stones. They are well aware of the importance of this club and the levels the team has reached in recent years. I am confident that we will be able to raise the bar even higher with these new additions."
In discussing the signing of Spence, he stated: "It is correct to compare Spence to Dumfries, but we chose him for his specific attributes. He also has room for development and joins a team that wants to dominate again."
