Official: Bruno Guimarães Joins Arsenal

Arsenal has officially announced today, Saturday, the signing of Brazilian international Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United on a long-term contract, making him the latest addition to the team during the summer transfer window.

Grimarić, aged 28, arrives at Arsenal after four and a half seasons with Newcastle, during which he played nearly 200 matches and was one of the team's standout players. He contributed to winning the EFL Cup in 2025 and helped the club qualify for the Champions League in two seasons.

The Brazilian midfielder began his career with Odax in his home country in 2015, before moving to Atlético Paranaense in 2017. He then had a stint with French club Lyon starting in January 2020, where he solidified his status as one of the top midfielders in Europe, before transferring to Newcastle in January 2022.

On the international stage, Guimarães has played 48 matches with the Brazil national team, participating in the last World Cup and the Copa America. He also won a gold medal with Brazil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Bertà, said: "We are extremely happy to welcome Bruno Guimarães to our club. He is a player with a great mentality and quality, and he will provide strong leadership to the team."

He added: "Bruno is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player, combining quality with work rate. He has contributed goals and assists for his team every season. His joining will give Mikel Arteta more options to develop the team's playing style and will increase internal competition, which is essential to maintain the standards required to compete for major titles."

Bruno Guimarães will wear the number 39 shirt at Arsenal, and he will join his new teammates immediately. The transfer is still subject to the completion of regulatory procedures.
