Liverpool in Race with Arsenal for Aston Villa Defender
Liverpool continues to search for defensive reinforcements during the summer transfer window, as Ezri Konsa, the Aston Villa defender, has emerged as one of the club's top targets due to the shortage the team is facing in central defense.
The Mirror reported that Joe Gomez's injury, along with the ongoing absence of Jérémie Gouttekin and Giovanni Simeone, has prompted coach Andoni Iraola to intensify his efforts to secure a new defender before the season begins.
The newspaper reported that Arsenal is also interested in signing Konsa after William Saliba's injury, but Aston Villa is demanding £60 million for the English defender.
Ezri Konsa is 28 years old and has a contract with Aston Villa that runs until 2028, having joined the club in 2019. He has played 286 matches in various competitions with the team.
The report confirmed that Liverpool is facing a clear lack of depth in defense, noting that the club will continue to search for new signings to improve their squad ahead of the season's start.
Liverpool's transfer activity comes after a summer that saw major changes within the squad, in an effort to prepare a competitive roster for the new season.
