Australia Star Faces Legal Trouble After World Cup
Police in Sydney have arrested Sassuolo and Australian national team player Christian Volpato after he was caught driving at high speed, just days after returning from participating in the 2026 World Cup.
According to reports, Volpato was stopped twice on the same night for speeding, with one instance clocking him at 109 km/h in a zone with a maximum limit of 60 km/h. An initial drug test showed a positive result for cocaine, before a second sample was taken for final laboratory analysis.
The player has not yet been charged with any drug-related offenses, but Australian authorities have decided to suspend his international driving license for six months pending the completion of investigations and the final results of tests.
The Australian Football Federation has confirmed that it has contacted the player and will continue to monitor the case and provide support as the proceedings unfold.
