Rodri: This is the secret of the national team, we won the toughest World Cup ever

Spain's midfielder Rodri made statements to the press following the victory in the 2026 World Cup against Argentina, winning 1-0 after extra time.

Rodri said: "We are living an unbelievable moment. All I want is to thank God for everything He has given me. This group is amazing in every sense of the word. We are world champions for the second time. We won the toughest edition in World Cup history, having defeated a great Argentine team led by Lionel Messi, the best player in football history."

Speaking about the character of the Spanish national team, he stated: "This is the secret of the Spain team. We constantly attack you and never stop fighting, and in the end, God rewards you for that. We have been brave throughout the tournament."

Rodri spoke about the injury he suffered and the tough moments he went through, saying: "I hope the new generations see that a player who reaches the top can fall to the bottom, but he is capable of rising again. It's a message about determination and overcoming difficulties."

Reflecting on his Golden Ball win as the best player at the World Cup, he said: "In the end, you hold onto the moments when you feel the love of the people and their support. There are many who don’t know you personally, but I felt tremendous support from everyone, especially in Spain."
