Edward Sissoko Warns France Ahead of Spain Clash, Outlines Keys to Qualification
Edward Sissoko, former France international, has warned against squandering opportunities in their upcoming match against Spain, stating in a press interview that the French team could cause their own downfall if they lack attacking efficiency in the 2026 World Cup semi-final.
Sissoko explained that Spain's possession could actually benefit France, given the 'Les Bleus' ability to exploit spaces and their rapid transitions in attack, as both teams vie for a spot in the final.
Regarding Spain's standout players, Sissoko believes Rodri is the team's best player, but he sees Mikel Merino as having greater value due to his crucial goals, while he noted that Lamine Yamal has yet to reach his peak performance in the tournament.
Merino scored the winning goal against Belgium in the quarter-finals, while questions have been raised about Yamal's ability to deliver better performances.
The former France player concluded that the semi-final and final matches will be decisive in the race for the tournament's Best Player award, strongly favoring Kylian Mbappé for the accolade, alongside Ousmane Dembélé if he continues his current form with the French national team.
