Qatari Clubs Compete for Riyad Mahrez's Signature

Former Algerian international Riyad Mahrez has become a target for several clubs in the Qatari league, as reports reveal serious interest in signing him during the current summer transfer window, following the end of his journey with the Algerian national team and his announcement of international retirement.

This development comes after Mahrez officially left Al Ahli Saudi, despite having an additional year on his contract, after joining the club in the summer of 2023.

The name of the "Greens" captain had previously been linked with a potential move to Turkish club Fenerbahçe, as well as being considered by several Italian clubs, before Qatari teams entered the negotiations.

Qatari newspaper "Al Raya" confirmed in a report published today that two clubs from the Qatar Stars League have shown strong interest in signing the Algerian player, given his vast experience on both continental and international levels.

The newspaper added that Mahrez tops the priority list of both clubs during the current transfer period, without revealing their identities, noting that one of them will participate in the upcoming edition of the AFC Champions League.

The anticipated appearance in the continental tournament could be a significant factor in convincing Riyad Mahrez to embark on a new experience in the Qatari league if negotiations between the parties progress in the coming weeks.
