The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has admitted that the national team's performance at the 2026 World Cup did not meet fans' expectations, emphasizing that returning to the World Cup after a 12-year absence is a significant step in the project to rebuild Algerian football.

This statement came after a meeting of its federal office, chaired by Walid Sadi, where they expressed regret over the early elimination of the "Greens" in the Round of 32, noting that the results achieved did not reflect the ambitions anticipated by Algerian fans.

The federation confirmed that qualifying for the World Cup is just a phase in the development of the national team, considering that the aspirations of Algerian sports fans demand striving for results that align with the history and potential of Algerian football on the international stage.

Furthermore, the FAF stressed that it understands the disappointment expressed by supporters following the team's exit from the tournament, affirming its shared desire to see the national team regain its strong presence and achieve results befitting its history.

In this context, the federation announced the launch of a comprehensive and objective evaluation of the team's participation in the World Cup, covering various sporting and organizational aspects, aiming to identify shortcomings, draw lessons, and take necessary actions to enhance the competitiveness of the "Greens." The final decisions will be made after completing this evaluation, according to the powers granted to the federal office.

The football body reiterated its gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and all the country's high authorities for their ongoing support of Algerian football, confirming its commitment to responsible and transparent management.

On another note, the FAF welcomed all forms of constructive criticism aimed at developing national football, considering that discussions based on facts, respect for individuals, and seeking solutions are fundamental to driving reform.

Conversely, the federation strongly condemned hate speech, media disinformation campaigns, and attempts to influence public opinion, as well as personal attacks and all forms of incitement to division or verbal violence, asserting that freedom of expression cannot be a cover for abuse, defamation, threats, or harming the dignity of individuals and institutions.

The FAF concluded its statement by affirming that it will continue to implement the structural reforms it has initiated and will not respond to any attempts at disinformation or destabilization targeting its institutions, officials, or staff, stressing that all its steps are aimed at serving the higher interest of Algerian football.
