Spain Edges Belgium in Dramatic Finish to Reach World Cup Semis
The Spanish national team booked their place in the semifinals of the 2026 World Cup after defeating Belgium 2-1 in a thrilling quarterfinal match held on Friday evening at the Los Angeles stadium.
The first half was filled with excitement as Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring for Spain in the 30th minute, following a clearance from Thibaut Courtois that Ruiz capitalized on to find the net.
Belgium managed to equalize through Charles De Ketelaere, who headed in a cross from Castagne in the 41st minute.
In the second half, Spain continued to press for a winning goal, and Mikel Merino clinched the victory with a shot from outside the box that was parried by the goalkeeper, only for Merino to follow up and score.
With this win, Spain continues its successful campaign in the tournament and sets up a fiery clash against France in the semifinals, a highly anticipated matchup between two of the top contenders for the world title.
