Spain secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Portugal in a match held this evening at Dallas Stadium.

Spain will face the winner of the match between the USA and Belgium in the quarterfinals.

The first half of the match was relatively quiet and confined to midfield, with Mikel Oyarzabal nearly giving Spain an early lead in the 7th minute after receiving a pass from Dani Olmo, but his shot went just wide of the post.

Portugal responded in the 11th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo struck a powerful shot from inside the box, but Spain's goalkeeper made a brilliant save. Spain continued to apply pressure, with Lamine Yamal almost opening the scoring in the 16th minute, only for the Portuguese keeper to deny him, before making another great save from Alex Baena's shot in the same attack.

In the 30th minute, the Portuguese goalkeeper saved his team from a certain goal by clearing a dangerous long ball, just before Dani Olmo's header went narrowly wide. Portugal wasted another chance in the 37th minute when João Félix broke through on goal, but the keeper continued his fine form and managed to clear the ball.

Before the end of the first half, Nuno Mendes struck a powerful shot in the 41st minute, which was headed away by one of the defenders before hitting the crossbar, leaving the first half goalless.

In the second half, both teams continued to push for goals, with the Portuguese keeper saving a free-kick shot from Yamal in the 72nd minute. Ferran Torres then missed a golden opportunity to put Spain ahead in the 79th minute, as the defense intervened just in time to clear the ball.

In the 90+1 minute, Spain scored the winning goal after a pass from Torres reached substitute Mikel Merino, who fired a low shot from inside the box into the net. Silva then squandered an equalizer in the 90+6 minute with a header that went over the crossbar, sealing the match with Spain's victory and advancement.
