Arsenal Leads Race for Christian Kovan
Arsenal is actively pursuing a deal for Cameroon striker Christian Kovan, currently with Bayer Leverkusen, during the summer transfer window. The Gunners are reportedly in a strong position to secure his signature despite interest from Newcastle United, according to TEAMtalk citing German outlet Bild.
The report highlights that the 19-year-old Kovan caught Arsenal's attention after his impressive performance against them in the Round of 16 of the Champions League, having enjoyed a solid season with Bayer Leverkusen where he scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 44 appearances.
Furthermore, the absence of Newcastle in the Champions League enhances Arsenal's chances, as sporting director Andrea Bert has been in contact with the player's agents. Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly willing to sell him for around €70 million.
TEAMtalk also noted that Mikel Arteta is looking to add a new striker to bolster the attack, but Kovan's high price tag may lead Arsenal to continue exploring other attacking options during the summer transfer window.
