Spain Dominates Austria 3-0 to Reach World Cup Round of 16
Spain secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Austria in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, in a match held on Thursday evening at the Los Angeles stadium.
With this win, Spain booked their place in the Round of 16, where they will face the winner of the Croatia vs. Portugal match.
Spain started the match strongly, looking for an early goal, while Austria maintained tactical discipline. Cucurella had a goal disallowed in the 30th minute due to a foul on the Austrian goalkeeper.
Spain continued to apply pressure and finally took the lead in the 36th minute when Mikel Oyarzabal scored, converting a cross from Cucurella with a direct shot into the net. Baina nearly added a second goal from a direct free kick, but his shot hit the crossbar.
In the 66th minute, Spain doubled their lead through Pedro Porro, who headed in a cross from Baina after Cucurella's pass found him inside the box. Alaba then saved Austria from a certain goal after a shot from Yamal in the 84th minute.
Spain managed to score a third goal through Mikel Oyarzabal in the 89th minute, as he easily converted a cross from Cucurella, sealing the match at 3-0 in favor of La Roja.
