Saturday 27-06-2026
The Uruguay national team suffered a new blow during their match against Spain in the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, as midfielder Manuel Ugarte sustained an injury that forced him to leave the field before the end of the first half.

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Ugarte, a Manchester United player, sustained a knee injury while contesting the ball in midfield, before realizing he couldn't continue the match and immediately requested a substitution.

The newspaper added that Marcelo Bielsa, the head coach of the Uruguay national team, brought on Nicolás De La Cruz as a substitute for Ugarte at the end of the first half, in an attempt to compensate for the absence of the midfielder.

Ugarte left the field on a stretcher, visibly in pain, adding to the troubles of the Uruguay national team during the match, having already conceded a goal in the first half against the Spanish team.
