Punishment of Video Referee After Algeria vs Argentina Match Incident
Media reports revealed that the Algerian Football Federation's complaint regarding the match against Argentina led to action from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), prompting an internal investigation into the performance of the refereeing team during the game.
According to what was reported by the Algerian channel "Al-Hayat," the investigation included a review of the controversial refereeing decisions raised by the Algerian side in their official complaint, following their 3-0 loss in the first round of the group stage of the World Cup.
The preliminary results of the investigation clarified that the error was not from the on-field referee, who had requested a review of one of the clips, but rather from the video assistant referee, who failed to recommend stopping the play or reviewing the situation more accurately.
The reports added that "FIFA" has taken disciplinary action against the video assistant referee and held the video room crew fully responsible for the officiating error that occurred during the match.
The Algerian national team objected to the fact that Lionel Messi was not sent off after what they described as a dangerous challenge on the team's captain, Aïssa Mandi. They also called for the punishment of Alexis Mac Allister due to another challenge on player Ibrahim Maza.
