Wahbi: Winning is More Important Than Performance Against Scotland.. We Will Be Stronger in the Third Match
The Moroccan national team coach, Mohamed Wahbi, emphasized that the three points were the most important goal from the match against Scotland, stressing that the team faced an opponent that relied heavily on long balls, especially after the match was not decided with a second goal.
During the press conference following the match, Wahbi explained that his team knew how to handle the course of the game, saying: "We secured three points, and that is what matters most. When you don't score the second goal, you have to defend against their style, which relies on long balls."
He added that the Moroccan team performed better in the second half, successfully imposing its control over the rhythm of the game, despite the different playing styles of opponents in the World Cup, noting that the decision is still pending: "In the second half, we played well and controlled the match. In the World Cup, you face opponents with different playing styles. We won today and have 4 points, but we haven't secured qualification yet, so I will field the best team against Haiti to achieve victory... We will assess the players' readiness."
In response to a question from a French journalist regarding the Achraf Hakimi case, Wahbi confidently replied: "Did you watch the match? He is the best right-back in the world."
The coach of the "Atlas Lions" also expressed his satisfaction with the gradual improvement in the team's performance, affirming that the best is yet to come: "Believe it or not, I am very pleased with the performance because our output was better than the first match. We reached the penalty area on multiple occasions, and I see that there is progress, which is why I believe we will be better in the third match."
The Moroccan national team is preparing to play its final group stage match next Wednesday, when it faces the Haitian team in the third round of Group C for the 2026 World Cup.
