Arsenal's midfield star Declan Rice appeared in a press statement following the loss in the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time.

The player said in his statement: "Yes, it is extremely frustrating, losing a Champions League final on penalties is devastating. I'm trying to grasp the progress we've made as a team. It was a great season, we gave it our all, and took the game to penalties. It's a game of chance, it's football."

He added: "In penalty shootouts, you either win or lose, some of the best teams in history have lost on penalties, and we were the ones to face this fate tonight. We win together, and we lose together, I am very proud of these players. I can't find enough words to praise them all. Obviously, I am very disappointed, but I am trying to come to terms with it. It has been a wonderful journey this season. We will return."

On Gabriel and Eberechi Eze missing their penalties: "[They are] very frustrated to miss a penalty in a Champions League final, obviously, it's not good. But we love and support them. This happens in football. They won't be the last players to miss penalties in finals."

He concluded: "Everyone misses penalties, and without these two players, we wouldn't have won the Premier League this season, that's for sure. Regarding Gabriel, I can't find enough words to describe him as a person and as a player. Eberechi has scored crucial goals for us this season. This happens, this is football, and it's harsh. We take the positives and continue the journey."
