Officially.. Monza Returns to Serie A

Monza secured the third and final promotion spot to Serie A for the upcoming season, despite losing 2-0 to visiting Catanzaro this Friday evening in the second leg of the playoff final.

The first leg had ended in favor of Monza with the same score (2-0), resulting in a 2-2 aggregate draw between the two teams. Neither extra time nor penalty shootouts were used, as the regulations of the Italian Football Federation for the second division state that the team with the better position in the regular season standings advances in the event of a tie.

Thanks to Monza finishing its league campaign in third place, ahead of Catanzaro who came in fifth, the team succeeded in securing the official promotion ticket.

Thus, Monza joins both Venezia and Frosinone, who had already qualified directly, completing the trio of clubs promoted to the top-flight league of fame and spotlight.
