Division Within Juventus Over Douglas Luiz's Future

The newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' revealed that the Juventus management is witnessing a difference in opinions regarding the future of Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, as he nears his return from Aston Villa after the end of his loan period in the Premier League.

According to the newspaper, Aston Villa is not expected to exercise the option to permanently purchase the player's contract for 25 million euros, which opens the door for his return to Juventus during the summer transfer window.

The report indicates a disparity within the Italian club, as coach Luciano Spalletti wants to give Douglas Luiz a new opportunity within the team, even though he has not coached him since arriving at Juventus in October 2025.

Spalletti believes that Juventus' absence from the Champions League in the 2026/2027 season will affect its competitiveness in the transfer market, which may necessitate reevaluating some players, with the possibility of trying Douglas Luiz in the playmaker position during the preparation period.

On the other hand, director Damien Comolli disagrees with this approach, preferring to listen to offers for the 28-year-old player, in light of an administrative vision that relies on restoring the team's financial balance.

According to the newspaper, Comolli considers Douglas Luiz one of the candidates for departure, especially with Juventus needing to sell some players to offset the losses from not participating in the Champions League.

Douglas Luiz had a fluctuating season on loan in the Premier League between Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, where he participated in 34 matches during the 2025/2026 season, scoring one goal and assisting two, while his contract with Juventus extends until June 2029.
