The winger of Nashville SC, Ahmed Qasim, revealed the behind-the-scenes of his decision to represent the Iraqi national football team in the World Cup, after being eligible to represent more than one national team during his international career.
The player said in his statements: "I was born in Sweden, my mother is from Iraq and my father is from Palestine. I could have represented three national teams. I played for Sweden's youth teams, but the Iraqi people supported me a lot. I felt it in my heart, so I decided to change the national team."
Qasim explained that the support from Iraqi fans was a decisive factor in making his final decision, noting that he felt a strong emotional connection with the Iraqi national team despite growing up in Europe and starting his career in Swedish football.
