Barcelona Becomes the Most Represented Club in World Cup History
The World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada will be the second tournament in the competition's history in terms of the number of participating Barcelona players, with the Catalan club having 15 players in the upcoming edition.
The newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' explained that this number is surpassed only by the Qatar 2022 World Cup, which saw the participation of 17 Barcelona players, making it the most represented club from any team in the history of the tournament during a single edition.
In the Qatar World Cup, Barcelona surpassed previous records of 14 players in the Russia 2018 edition, in addition to 13 players in the France 1998, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014 editions.
Barcelona is expected to have eight players representing the Spanish national team led by Luis de la Fuente, including: Joao Garcia, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal.
The number could have reached nine players with the Spanish team if not for Fermín López's injury with a fracture in the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.
Several Barcelona players have also been called up to their national teams, including Jules Kounde with France, Joao Cancelo with Portugal, Raphinha with Brazil, Marcus Rashford with England, and Hamza Abdel Karim with Egypt.
This brings the total number of players who have participated in the World Cup while at Barcelona to 119 players since 1930, a historic number for the Catalan club.
In the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the number was 112 players, before rising again in the current edition with new names such as Joao Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Joao Cancelo, Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal, Marcus Rashford, and Hamza Abdel Karim.
