Erbil Club Faces Major Crisis Before Police Encounter

Tuesday 19-05-2026
Erbil Club witnessed a sudden development before the anticipated match against the police tomorrow in the Iraqi Stars League, following the announcement of its Uzbek striker Sherzod Temirov leaving Iraq and heading to his country to join the Uzbekistan national team camp.

The player left without informing the club management or the technical staff, prompting the 'Castle of Hawler' management to announce legal actions against him for breaching contract terms and leaving the team at a critical time in the season.

Temirov, the current league top scorer with 28 goals, is considered Erbil's primary winning card this season and has directly contributed to the team reaching third place with 70 points, three rounds before the end.

His departure before a decisive match against the police was deemed by the management as an 'unprofessional act' affecting the team's stability and technical plans, especially since the match is a crucial point in the battle for second and third place.

After the club announced its intention to pursue legal action against the player, Temirov retracted his decision and agreed to return to Erbil to join the team's training.

Sources close to the club confirmed that communication took place between the parties, and an agreement was reached for the player's return and an apology for the manner in which he left, with the matter to be reviewed internally after the season ends.

For their part, the technical staff hopes that what happened was merely a 'misunderstanding' and that Temirov will return with full focus to lead the attack against the police, especially as the team seeks to secure third place and ensure an Asian spot next season.
