Arsenal Nears Extension of Arteta's Contract
Reports have revealed that the English club Arsenal is planning to extend the contract of its Spanish manager Mikel Arteta during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Arteta, aged 44, led Arsenal to the UEFA Champions League final this season at the expense of Spanish club Atletico Madrid, after the English club secured a 2-1 aggregate victory.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his account on the "X" platform that the decision to extend Arteta's contract was already made last March, regardless of the end-of-season results.
Romano clarified that the Spanish coach is currently focused on competing for titles, but he is impressed with the London club's project and looks forward to starting negotiations, indicating that an agreement will be reached soon.
Arteta took over as Arsenal's coach in December 2019, and his contract with the Gunners extends until June 2027.
Arsenal tops the English Premier League standings with 76 points, leading by 5 points over Manchester City in second place, with the latter having a game in hand.
