Koke: I Will Not Talk About Refereeing, This is How We Feel
Wednesday 06-05-2026
Atlético Madrid captain, Spanish star Koke, spoke after his team's loss to Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Emirates Stadium, expressing his disappointment despite being proud of the team's performance.

Koke said: "We are very disappointed, but I am proud of the team. We gave it our all. We had chances, but they didn't translate into goals, and the same scenario repeated in the first leg. We put them under pressure at several points, but football relies on decisiveness in critical areas, and they were more effective and deserved to qualify."

Regarding the missed opportunities in both matches, he added: "On our home ground and here as well, we had chances to take the lead or equalize, but that's football; you have to be decisive in both areas."

Regarding the refereeing, he said: "I will not talk about the referee. He tried to do his job as best as possible. As I said before, I have nothing to add."

As for coach Diego Simeone's talk with the players, he explained: "He told us that we tried, and if you give everything you have and the ball doesn't go into the net, you can't be blamed. The team fought until the end but didn't succeed."

Regarding the season's evaluation, Koke said: "It was a season full of excitement, especially in the Champions League and the King's Cup, but we weren't consistent in the league and lost important points. We were very close to the cup final and lost it on penalties, and here too we were just one step away from the final. The team is growing and includes young players, and it will soon be capable of competing for titles, and we will try to help them."

He concluded with a brief comment about his future: "We will talk when the time is right."
