McFarlane: The Poor Start Decided the Match, and We Trust in Stopping the Decline and Responding Quickly
Monday 04-05-2026
Callum McFarlane, the interim manager of Chelsea, made statements following the match against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League, which ended with a 3-1 defeat for the Blues.

McFarlane said, "A very disappointing result and performance. The first 15 minutes were not enough, and they set the tone for the match."

He continued: "It's difficult to say at the moment why the mistake happened. I would probably like to review the match to see this significant difference compared to how we defended against Leeds."

He added: "Enzo Fernandez hit the post and Cole Palmer missed a penalty. When you have such a bad start, you need moments like these to go your way, and unfortunately, that didn't happen."

When asked whether the team was difficult to train, he said: "I wouldn't say that. I don't think we lacked effort or commitment. We got into some good positions in the second half, and it wasn't due to a lack of effort."

He concluded his statements by saying: "We believe we will stop this decline. We see the players every day doing everything they can. We need to move forward quickly, and it's now about the reaction."
