The Iraqi Football Association announced that an official agreement has been reached to hold an international friendly match between the Iraqi national team and its Spanish counterpart on June 4th at the Riazor Stadium in the Spanish city of La Coruña.

The announcement of this anticipated match came following a meeting held by the President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, with the President of the Spanish Federation, Rafael Lozan, in the city of Vancouver, Canada, on the sidelines of the 76th FIFA Congress. The meeting concluded with the finalization of all administrative and logistical details related to the encounter.

This historic match is an essential part of the "Lions of Mesopotamia" preparation program for the 2026 World Cup finals. The Iraqi national team is scheduled to engage in an external training camp in Spain, starting from May 18 and extending until June 5, with the encounter against "La Roja" being the grand finale of this camp.

It is noted that this is the second encounter in the history of matches between the two national teams, with the first match dating back to the 2009 Confederations Cup, which ended with a 1-0 victory for the Spanish team.
