Milan Approaches Modric's Contract Extension
Friday 01-05-2026
The Italian club Milan is preparing to extend the contract of Croatian star Luka Modric for an additional season, in a move that reflects the club's commitment to the player’s services, despite the approaching end of his current contract with the conclusion of this season.

The newspaper 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' reported that Milan's management is inclined to activate the extension clause in Modric's contract, instead of ending his football career due to the injury he recently suffered, after he sustained a facial bone fracture during the goalless draw against Juventus.

Modric's joining, a former Ballon d'Or winner, to Milan is considered a successful deal, as the 40-year-old player started in 32 out of 34 matches the team played in the Italian league this season, totaling 2788 minutes, a number that exceeds what he achieved in any of his last five seasons with Real Madrid.

Modric is expected to miss the last four matches of the 2025/2026 season, due to the injury he sustained while attempting to head the ball against Manuel Locatelli, which led to his facial bone fracture.

This injury could have ended the player's career, especially since he signed only a one-year contract with Milan at the beginning of the current season, but the club prefers to keep him for an additional season.

According to the same newspaper, activating the extension clause is contractually available, but Milan's management will not take this step without obtaining the player's approval, which is expected to be positive.

Modric tends to continue with Milan to compete in the Champions League under the leadership of coach Massimiliano Allegri, along with his desire to end his football career within a big club and at a historic stadium like San Siro.
