Mohamed Abdel Monsef: I Expect El Shenawy to Return for the Summit Match
Wednesday 29-04-2026
Mohamed Abdel Monsef, the former Zamalek star, confirmed that the Whites currently have high hopes of winning both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian Premier League.

Abdel Monsef said on the "El Leeb" program on MBC Egypt: "We always used to cite Al Ahly Club's management as an example to learn from, and we still do. It's natural for any team to face setbacks, but the important thing is to acknowledge mistakes in order to correct them."

He continued: "When we used to talk before, we emphasized that the board of directors of Zamalek Club has mistakes that need to be addressed, whether regarding the land issue or technical stability, especially with the frequent changes in the technical staff, which we were indeed suffering from."

He pointed out: "The registration file and the change of technical staff were among the major crises, as more than three or four coaches succeeded each other without achieving notable results. However, as former Zamalek players, or as media and fans, we faced the mistakes clearly and identified them explicitly, and we worked on correcting them gradually until we reached the current stage where we feel satisfied with the performance and results. We have great hope now, after expectations at the beginning of the season indicated lower positions and no achievements."

He stated: "Regarding the goalkeeping position before the summit match against Zamalek, I believe that recently Mustafa Shobeir has not been at his best focus, especially after Mohamed El-Shenawy's suspension, as his performance has declined compared to the period when he was at the peak of his brilliance."

He concluded: "I expect Mohamed El-Shenawy to return for the next match, given that he has had a good rest and mental clarity, in addition to his strong motivation to come back, especially with important events like the World Cup approaching, which might give him an advantage at this stage."
