In an incident that sparked widespread controversy in Spanish football, Argentine goalkeeper Esteban Andrada of Real Zaragoza received a harsh penalty after assaulting a Huesca player during the derby match between the two teams about a week ago.

The Spanish Football Federation decided to suspend Andrada for 13 matches, with 12 matches for the direct assault on Jorge Pulido, in addition to one match due to being sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

The final moments of the match saw the goalkeeper lose his temper, as he approached Pulido after being sent off, before running towards him and delivering a strong punch to the face, causing a bruise on the left cheek, which was documented in the referee's report and was a decisive factor in intensifying the penalty.

The penalties also extended to other players, as Dani Jiménez, Huesca's goalkeeper, was suspended for 4 matches for his involvement in the events following the incident, while Tascende, a Zaragoza player, received a two-match suspension.

The Disciplinary Committee considered Andrada's actions to include aggravating factors, most notably the assault occurring after play had stopped, his deliberate movement towards the opposing player, the use of excessive force resulting in a clear injury, and causing a mass brawl among the players.

For his part, Andrada issued a public apology immediately after the match, addressing his message to his club and fans as well as to Pulido, expressing deep regret for his actions, before renewing his apology privately through a direct message to the Huesca captain in an attempt to contain the crisis.

This incident underscores the strictness of the organizing bodies in dealing with violent behavior on the field, especially in professional competitions, to maintain the values of fair play and the safety of players.
