The former Austrian goalkeeper Alex Manninger passed away at the age of 48 following a horrific car accident, as announced by his first club, Red Bull Salzburg.

The club expressed its deep sorrow over the passing of its former player, affirming that its thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

According to reports from Austria, the accident occurred on Thursday morning when Manninger's car collided with a train at a railway crossing in the Nussdorf area, resulting in his immediate death.

Throughout his career, Manninger played 33 international matches for the Austrian national team and played for several clubs, most notably Arsenal, which he joined in 1997. He won the Premier League title with them during Arsène Wenger's tenure, despite strong competition from goalkeepers David Seaman and Richard Wright.

He also moved between several European clubs such as Juventus, Torino, and Bologna, and ended his career with Liverpool without participating in official matches.
