FIFA Refuses to Relocate Iran's Matches in the World Cup
Saturday 11-04-2026
Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, announced that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has made its decision regarding the request to relocate Iran's matches in the 2026 World Cup, affirming its refusal to make any changes to the venues.

This comes after the Iranian federation submitted an official request to avoid playing group stage matches on American soil, in light of recent tensions in the Middle East.

During a press conference, the President of Mexico explained that FIFA decided to keep the match schedule as it is, noting that moving any match requires complex logistical arrangements, which are difficult to implement given the limited time before the tournament begins.

FIFA had previously expressed reservations about the Iranian request, especially since the team will play its matches in Group G alongside the teams of Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand.

In the same context, reports revealed that Gianni Infantino, the President of the International Federation, was keen on ensuring Iran's continued participation in the tournament despite political tensions, while emphasizing full compliance with the regulations governing the competition.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, with the United States, Canada, and Mexico serving as host countries.
