Spalletti Criticizes His Team Despite the Win Against Genoa
Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti criticized his team's performance in the second half, despite their 2-0 victory over Genoa on Monday evening in the 31st round of the Italian league.
Juventus secured the victory thanks to first-half goals from Gleison Bremer and Weston McKennie, but the team struggled significantly after the break. Goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio shone by saving a penalty, rescuing the Bianconeri from a difficult situation.
Spalletti said in statements after the match: "It wasn't about fatigue, we didn't train yesterday or the day before. I gave the players a break because they needed to recover."
He added: "The players had two days of rest, then they had one and a half training sessions, followed by a break, so we can't talk about fatigue."
The Italian coach expressed his surprise at the team's inconsistent performance, stating: "Sometimes we have to accept that we are not at our best. After six or seven months here, I'm still not sure what I'm dealing with."
He continued: "It's not normal for us to play the first half at this level and then the second half like that. If they had scored the penalty, it would have been a very difficult evening."
Spalletti also expressed concern about the injury of forward Dusan Vlahovic, who was preparing to enter the game but felt pain in his calf during the warm-up, in addition to the injury of goalkeeper Mattia Perin, who left the match at halftime.
The coach concluded his remarks by saying: "There is concern because they have both sustained muscle injuries. We will conduct tests to determine how long they will be out of the field."
