Sudanese Al-Hilal Escalates Renaissance Berkane Crisis and Gives CAF Final Deadline
Sunday 05-04-2026
Al Hilal of Sudan announced that it received an official letter from the Confederation of African Football regarding the ongoing dispute with Renaissance Berkane concerning the participation of one of its players in the match between the two teams.

The Sudanese club had filed a complaint objecting to the participation of player Hamza Al-Mousawi, despite a previous decision to suspend him due to a doping-related violation.

Al-Hilal clarified in an official statement that the African Union has scheduled a hearing to consider the case on April 9, 2026, which was seen as an indication of the complaint being accepted, following several previous communications that went unanswered.

On the other hand, the club expressed its dissatisfaction with the lack of clarifications regarding the stance of the other parties involved in the case, emphasizing that this raises procedural reservations before the session convenes.

Al-Hilal granted the African Union a final deadline to respond before a specified date, demanding either a final decision to be issued and communicated to all parties before the anticipated match, or to suspend it until the issue is resolved.

The club hinted at resorting to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if it does not receive an official response, emphasizing its commitment to all its legal rights.

The statement also pointed out reservations about appointing the same official who previously issued a decision to lift the temporary suspension of the player, considering that this might raise suspicions of a conflict of interest.

Al-Hilal affirmed at the conclusion of its statement its commitment to defending its rights and maintaining the integrity of competitions in African football.
