Martinez: I Don't Know When Cristiano Ronaldo Will Retire Internationally
Portugal's national team coach Roberto Martinez stated that he cannot specify when star Cristiano Ronaldo will retire from international play, despite the player's previous remarks suggesting he might end his national team career within a year or two.
Martinez said that predicting Ronaldo's future is difficult, explaining: "I quickly learned not to expect anything with Cristiano. He has an elite mentality and focuses only on being the best today. If you ask him, he will say the same thing; he doesn't make long-term plans."
The coach also revealed that the captain of the Portuguese national team is currently suffering from a minor muscle injury, but he may start returning to group training with his team next week, confirming that the injury is not concerning.
He added, "Cristiano is our captain. He has been extremely influential and of great importance. We won the UEFA Nations League thanks to him. His role is crucial in our team; he makes the final moves inside the penalty area, poses a threat to the goal, and can finish attacks skillfully."
He concluded: "His mentality is extremely inspiring. He lives every day as if it were his last and wants to improve. No one knows when the end will come."
