Senegalese Federation Rejects CAF Decision to Withdraw Africa Cup of Nations Title
Abdullah Fall, President of the Senegalese Football Federation, announced his country's rejection of the decision issued by the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football, which ruled to withdraw the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title from Senegal and officially award it to the Moroccan team. He affirmed that the Senegalese team would not lose the title from a legal standpoint.
Val said in statements reported by Radio Monte Carlo: "We faced many organizational and administrative problems before the final, starting with accommodations that were not up to standard, the friction that occurred when the team arrived at the train station in Rabat, and being forced to train at the opponent's camp, which we refused, and another place was allocated for us."
The President of the Senegalese Federation added that the President of the Moroccan Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, personally intervened to find solutions, but he emphasized that the final match was not conducted under fair conditions. He explained: "We will resort to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to defend our rights, as Senegal cannot legally lose this title."
The CAF Appeals Committee issued its decision considering the Senegal team as withdrawn from the final match. Based on articles 82 and 84 of the tournament regulations, they declared a 3-0 forfeit loss in favor of Morocco. The decision also included accepting Morocco's appeal on some financial penalties and amending the players' sanctions.
This decision comes after a two-month celebration by the Senegalese team for winning the championship title following a 1-0 victory over Morocco after extra time, before the Appeals Committee issued its surprising decision, which sparked a wide wave of controversy in African sports circles.
The Senegalese federation confirmed in its statement that it will continue to pursue the case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, committed to defending the interests of Senegalese football, sports values, and integrity.
