England Approaches Fifth Spot in the Champions League Again
Saturday 14-03-2026
It seems that the English Premier League is on track to secure an additional spot in the UEFA Champions League for the second consecutive season, despite some of its clubs' disappointing results in recent European matches. This is due to the continued dominance of English clubs in the UEFA club rankings this season.

According to The Times, England currently leads the UEFA coefficient table thanks to the strong performances of its clubs in continental competitions. The collective performance in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League has contributed to raising its score to 22.847 points, clearly ahead of Spain and Germany.

Despite English clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur suffering defeats in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 this week, previous achievements this season – including five English clubs reaching the top eight positions in the league stage – still give England a significant advantage in the race for the additional spot.

Under the new tournament system, the top two European associations based on continental performance during the season will receive an additional spot in the Champions League. This means that if England maintains its current position, the team finishing fifth in the English Premier League will qualify directly for the continental competition in the next season.
