Iniesta Appears in a New Project for Moroccan Football
The Spanish newspaper Sport, close to FC Barcelona, revealed that the legend of the Spanish national football team and former Barcelona player Andrés Iniesta is a candidate to take over the position of sports director for the national teams in Morocco.
The newspaper explained that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has chosen Iniesta to fill this position during a phase witnessing technical changes within the football system, most notably the appointment of Mohamed Wahbi as the coach of the Moroccan national team, succeeding Walid Regragui, along with the hiring of Portuguese coach João Sacramento as the first assistant instead of Rachid Benmahmoud.
According to the report, the consideration of involving Iniesta is an essential part of the project to develop Moroccan football in the coming years, as part of the preparations for the “Morocco 2030” plan, especially with the country hosting the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal.
Iniesta is expected to contribute to organizing the sports performance project related to the first team, while Sacramento will work on introducing modern training methods that meet the requirements of competition in modern football.
The newspaper confirmed that the anticipated changes are not limited to the technical staff only, but come as part of a broader vision aimed at developing football in Morocco by linking the first team with youth and academy preparation programs, in addition to supporting women's football.
The President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, announced during a press conference the appointment of Mohamed Wahbi as the new coach of the national team, praising the work done by Walid Regragui during his leadership of the Moroccan national football team in the past period.
