Pique's Law Closes the Door for Ronaldo to Represent Almeria
Thursday 26-02-2026
The acquisition of a stake in Almería by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo opens the door to speculation about the possibility of his return to Spanish football in the future.

The leader of Al-Nassr currently owns 25% of the shares in Almeria, which competes in the Spanish second division, in a move that confirms his inclination towards sports investment alongside his professional career.

The deal raised questions about the possibility of Ronaldo moving to represent the Spanish club, despite his official contract with Al-Nassr that extends until June 2027.

The newspaper "AS" revealed that the regulations of the Spanish Football Federation and the Sports Law issued by the Higher Sports Council prohibit active players from having business interests in local clubs while continuing to compete within Spain.

According to the legislation known in the media as the "Anti-Piqué Law," issued in February 2025, Ronaldo is not allowed to represent Almería or any Spanish team as long as he retains his investment stake.

The approval of this law came following the controversy involving Spaniard Gerard Piqué and his commercial negotiations related to organizing the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, with the aim of protecting the integrity of competitions and preventing conflicts of interest.
