The forward Gorka Guruzeta successfully led Athletic Bilbao to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Elche at the San Mamés Stadium, after scoring the winning goal from a penalty in the 89th minute, in a match that saw a clear dominance by the home team, especially in the first half.

The Basque team had squandered easy chances to take the lead through Sunset and Iñaki Williams before the break.

Gorozita opened the scoring in the 64th minute after a pass from Yuri, but Elche quickly equalized with a penalty successfully executed by Andre da Silva in the 69th minute.

With Bilbao's performance relatively declining in the second half, the team needed another penalty in the final minutes after a challenge on Laporte, allowing Guruzeta to return and score the winning goal, securing the three points.

With this victory, Athletic Bilbao strengthened its position in the Spanish league standings, holding the eighth place with 34 points, while Elche suffered another defeat despite improving its performance in the second half and attempting to come back in the score, remaining in sixteenth place with 25 points.
