Konaté: I Went Through a Tough Period, and We Must Focus on Each Match One at a Time
Sunday 01-02-2026
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate appeared in a press conference after the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United in the 24th round of the English Premier League.

The French player said: "I am definitely very happy. I can't find the words to describe my feelings right now, as my family and I have gone through a very difficult time over the past two weeks, but this is life. It's hard to accept, and we have no other choice."

He added, "I know the team was suffering from injuries, and the coach advised me during the call to take my time and not rush my return. Given these circumstances [injuries], it was important for me to come back and help the team. I did that today with the team at Anfield; the atmosphere was fantastic, and that's what we need until the end of the season."

He added about Wirtz's performance: "I'm very happy for him, honestly. He has shown the world his quality. He hasn't reached his peak yet, but he will get there very soon. We talked during the pre-season about what he would deliver, and if he reaches that peak, it will be truly amazing."

On building consistency in league performance: "We have to focus on each match individually. For me, we are always the better team on the field, but perhaps we concede too many goals or don't score enough. However, today we performed very well, and we have to focus on each subsequent match one at a time."
