Three Barcelona Players Threatened with Suspension in the Champions League
Tuesday 27-01-2026
Barcelona will meet Copenhagen on Wednesday at 10 PM Cairo time at the Spotify Camp Nou in a decisive match to determine its direct future in the Champions League.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Sport', the Catalan team aims to be among the top eight positions to avoid the playoff, but it does not rely entirely on itself, as a victory may not be enough to ensure direct qualification.

Coach Hans Flick faces an issue related to three players threatened with suspension if they receive a yellow card: Fermín López, Gerard Martín, and Marc Casado. Any additional card will make them miss the first leg of the playoff or the round of 16, depending on the team’s ranking in the tournament.

The source indicated that other players have completed their suspension, namely Lamine Yamal and Frenkie de Jong. Lamine missed the match against Slavia Prague last week, while De Jong will not be able to participate against Copenhagen after receiving his third yellow card in Prague. UEFA's system applies a suspension mechanism after three yellow cards, then every two additional cards, with all cards being wiped before the semi-finals.

In addition to the directly threatened trio, four other players have one yellow card each in their record: Dani Olmo, Balde, Koundé, and Ronald Araújo.

If any of these players receive a warning against Copenhagen, they will join the list of those threatened with suspension if they receive another card in the first leg of the next round.

It is noted that Araújo has only one yellow card recorded in his current records, despite his previous expulsion against Chelsea with two warnings, as the current counting system relies on card accumulation in the league stage.
