CAF Imposes Sanctions on Algerian National Team After Nigeria Match Incidents
Wednesday 21-01-2026
The African Football Confederation's (CAF) Disciplinary Committee announced today, Wednesday, the imposition of a series of disciplinary sanctions against the Algerian national team, following the incidents that accompanied their match against the Nigerian national team.

The committee decided to suspend goalkeeper Luca Zidane for two matches and defender Rafiq Belghali for four matches, with only two of those matches being enforced and the remaining two suspended.

The sanctions also included financial fines totaling $100,000 as part of the disciplinary measures taken by the continental federation.

These decisions stem from the events that occurred during the Algeria vs. Nigeria match in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Morocco and concluded recently.
