Aston Villa has shown interest in signing Crystal Palace French striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, as part of coach Unai Emery's efforts to strengthen the team's forward line in the coming period, according to journalist David Ornstein.

Villa's interest in Mateta coincides with Crystal Palace considering a possible move in the opposite direction, by attempting to sign striker Ivan Gesand, a name the London club had already pursued during last summer's transfer window.

Mateta is one of the options on Unai Emery's table to support the attack, while Villa continues to evaluate several names to reinforce the striker position, including Tammy Abraham, amid the desire to increase offensive effectiveness and compete on multiple fronts.

So far, there are no advanced official negotiations, but the mutual interest opens the door to multiple scenarios, whether through a direct deal or separate moves between the two parties, with anticipation of developments in the coming days in the transfer market.
